Monthly Utilities Overview

Monthly utilities billing includes water, sewer and trash removal charges.

Billing & Due Dates

  • Billing is apprised the 1st of each of month and due by the 15th. After-hours drop box for billing payments available at 323 Pueblo Avenue, Simla, Colorado.

Payment Options

Convenience & Late Fees

  • Fees incurred for the convenience of using debit/credit cards OR phone payment processing services are passed on to the individual utilizing, rather than being borne by town and resulting in overall increased rates to all.
  • A late fee of $15 is incurred for any payments received after the 15th.

Water

The Town of Simla is excited to offer our citizen a tool to monitor their water usage and receive alerts when there may be a possible issue. By creating a customer portal account, you can set up alerts for:

  • Flow Alerts:

    This alert covers four different categories of possible alerts, Back Flow (meaning water is flowing in reverse), Continuous Flow (meaning water is continuously flowing), No Flow (meaning there has been no water flow for a while), and Excessive Flow (meaning water flow is flowing more than average)

  • Vacation Alerts:

    This alert is designed to allow you to have alerts scheduled while you are away on vacation. Simply enter the date range you will be away from home and set a water usage amount trigger. If there is water usage beyond what you have set as the trigger point, you will be alerted once you configure and subscribe to this alert.

  • Cold Weather Alerts:

    Whenever the temperature goes below the value that you enter below (32°F by default), you will be alerted. This is useful so you can drip your faucets to avoid pipes bursting in freezing temperatures.

  • Water Usage Alerts:

    Whenever water usage over a 24-hour period exceeds the previous 30-day water usage average by more than the percentage that you set, you will be alerted.

Residential Rates

  • Town of Simla’s base residential rate of $43.26 includes:

    • 4,000 gallons of water in WINTER (November 1st – April 30th)
    • 6,000 gallons of water in SUMMER (May 1st – October 30th)

Landlords have the authority to check the balance of all tenant accounts

Residential Overage Fees

  • Overages will be billed as follows

    • Up to 15,000 gallons – $3.04 per 1,000 gallons
    • 15,001-30,000 – $3.62 per 1,000 gallons
    • Over 30,001 gallons – $4.43 per 1,000 gallons

Commercial Rates

  • Town of Simla’s base commercial rate of $46.82 includes:

    • 5,000 gallons of water

Commercial Overage Fees

  • Over 5,000 gallons – $3.88 per 1,000 gallons

Out of Town User Rates

  • Town of Simla’s base Out-of -Town users is $69.34 for 4,000 gallons

Out of Town Overage Fees

  • Over 4,000 gallons – $4.16 per 1,000 gallons

Shut Off/Non-Payment/ Account Transfer Fees

  • $9.50 – Water off/availability to serve
  • $15.00 to change name on account
  • $50.00 Turn off fee if water is shut off
  • $25.00 added to all accounts. that are shut off for non-payment

Trash Service & Rates

  • Trash services are contracted to the town through Dan’s Trash Service, a branch of HBS Company.

  • Regular Schedule for trash pickup is weekly on Tuesdays.

    • When there is a holiday on a Monday, trash pick-up will be on Wednesday of that week.
    • For holidays that fall on dates other than Monday, we will announce via our website or calendar the date of trash pickup for that week.

Residential Weekly Service

Residential monthly rates are $23.34 and includes:

  • One (1) 95-gallon wheeled cart provided for each household in Simla. Containers are emptied weekly.
  • A Second 95-gallon cart can be requested for an additional $23.34
  • It is the responsibility of the residents of Simla to place these containers near an alley or roadway for ease of access for drivers.

2 or 3-yard Dumpster Rates

Dumpsters are provided to Simla residents/businesses which generate large quantities of solid waste. The size and number of dumpsters provided will be based on individual needs. Dumpsters are emptied weekly.

It is the responsibility for each customer to provide a safe, accessible location for the dumpsters.

  • Rate for 2-yard Dumpster – $64.64/month
  • Rate for 3-yard Dumpster – $80.46/month

Dumpster Service for Short Term accounts

Dumpsters are provided to Simla residents/businesses which generate large quantities of solid waste. The size and number of dumpsters provided will be based on individual needs. Dumpsters are emptied weekly.

It is the responsibility for each customer to provide a safe, accessible location for the dumpsters.

  • Rate for 2-yard Dumpster – $64.64/month
  • Rate for 3-yard Dumpster – $80.46/month

Extra Charge Items

  • Large Chair: $35.00
  • Couch: $65.00
  • Mattress: $65.00
  • Box Springs: $40.00
  • Electronic Waste: $1.40 per pound

Bulk Water

The Town of Simla offers two options for those needing bulk water. 

Option 1 

  • Type of Account: Self-service filling station 
  • Location: 803 Buffalo St 
  • Fill Type: Top Fill 
  • Payment Accepted: quarters, $1, $5, $10, $20, $50 
  • Price: $50.00 per 1, 000 gallons 

Option 2 

  • Type of Account: Bulk water account with the Town  
  • Location: Designated fire hydrant 
  • Fill Type: Hose (this is NOT supplied by the Town) 
  • Payment: Billed monthly 
  • Price: $15.00 per 1,000 gallons

To set up a bulk water account with the Town of Simla please complete the Bulk Water Application and return via email townhall@townofsimla.com or drop off at Town Hall, 323 Pueblo Ave, Simla CO 80835. 

Once your account has been set up the Town will provide you with information regarding where to fill, and who to contact for filling.

CONSUMER RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Reporting: It is the responsibility of the applicant to report water usage to Town Hall at the first of each. By calling 719-541-2468 or email to townhall@townofsimla.com.  Failure to report monthly water usage may result in the termination of the applicant’s bulk water account with the Town of Simla.  

Payment: The applicant agrees to pay monthly for the utility services rendered by the Town of Simla. Charges for service will be made at the regular established rate for gallons received. 

Delinquency: Payment for services is due within 20 days of the billing date and shall become delinquent if not paid by the due date reflected on such billing. The applicant agrees to pay reasonable expenses of collection including attorney’s fees and court costs should it become necessary to use such measures to collect the charges made to the applicant’s account.
