Simla Police Department

The Simla Police Department is responsible for law enforcement and investigations within the incorporated town limits of Simla. Our mission is to reduce crime and the fear of crime by working with community members and businesses to create a safe, enjoyable environment for all citizens to live, work and visit.

We strive to provide professional, effective law enforcement services through proactive enforcement and crime prevention measures. Our measure of success is not the quantity of arrests, but the absence of crime within our community.

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Inspections

The Simla Police Department provides standard VIN Inspections

Standard VIN inspections by appointment only, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 8 am - 4 pm.

  • To make an appointment call Town Hall, 719-541-2468

  • Cost $20.00, per VIN Inspection - Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card. There is a connivance fee when paying by credit card.

  • What you need to provide for the VIN inspection:

    • Vehicle or vehicles needing a VIN inspection
    • Title or registration for vehicle or vehicles needing a VIN inspection
    • Receipt of payment provided to you by Town Hall

Off- Highway Vehicle Registration and Operations within the Town - Ordinance 344

Effective June 21,2025 all off-highway vehicles, to include golf carts, and any self-propelled vehicle designed to travel on wheels or tracks in contact with the ground, designed primarily for use off the public highways, and generally and commonly used to transport persons for work or recreational purposes., all-terrain vehicles (ATV), utility terrain vehicle (UTV), operated on Simla roadways and alleys will be required to be registered with the Town.

Off-highway vehicles do not include vehicles designed and used specifically to transport disabled person, vehicles designed and used specifically for lawn care, agricultural, logging or mining purposes, or snowmobiles. The term OHV shall not include motorcycles not registered and equipped for highway use.

Roadway means a portion of the public way that is ordinarily used for vehicular travel and is not used at any time on public ways designed for bicycles or pedestrians, Roadway for purposes of this ordinance shall not include state highways.

Registrations of OHV will be required April of each year and will expire April 30th the following year.

How to register you OHV(s)

  • Complete the Registration Application for each OHV being registered.

  • Call Town Hall to schedule an inspection for each OHV being registered

    • Inspections are done by appointment only, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 9 am - 4pm
  • Bring OHV(s) to be registered to the Simla Police Department

    • What to bring to the inspection:

      1. OHV(s)
      2. Completed OHV registration form(s)
      3. Proof of insurance
  • After the Police Department has completed the inspection(s) Town Hall will collect the $50.00 registration for each OHV and you will be provided with the OHV registration sticker(s)

  • Registration stickers should be placed on the left-hand fender of the OHV

  • Registrations are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Please refer to ordinance 344 for all requirements to operate an OHV within the Town of Simla.

Fingerprinting

The Simla Police Department provides fingerprinting services. Fingerprinting services are done by appointment only, Tuesday - Friday, 9 am - 4 pm.

  • To make an appointment call Town Hall, 719-541-2468

  • Cost $20.00 - Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card. There is a connivance fee when paying by credit card.

  • What you need to provide for fingerprinting:

    • Your own set of fingerprinting cards
    • Identification
    • Receipt of payment provided to you by Town Hall
