Under Colorado law, every person has the right to access government public records. Not all records are public and may require a fee be paid to obtain them.

About the Process

Find a step-by-step explanation below of how to submit a request, what happens once you request is received, and how can expect to receive the requested information:

  1. Prepare and submit your request: A request can be made via email, mail, or in person at Town Hall. The request must clearly identify the documents desired and include any specific details that can help the Town in identifying records.
  2. The Town processes your request: Once the request is received, the Town reviews it to determine if clarification of the request is needed. Pursuant to the Colorado Open Records Act, records request are processed with three (3) working days; unless extenuating circumstances exist. In such instances, an extension of seven(7) working days is permitted. You will be notified prior to the end of the three-day period if any extension and all estimated costs. A modification of the request is considered a new request. Staff will provide an estimate for any research time and copies required. A 50% deposit will be required prior to processing the request, and all outstanding balances must be paid prior to release of any documents.
