Elections

General

The Town of Simla conducts its local election using the Uniform Election Code of 1992 in accordance with the provisions of Colorado Revised Statues 31-10-102.7.

Regular Elections

The Town of Simla holds a regular municipal election on the first Tuesday of April in every even-numbered year. The mayor, who serves a two-year term, is up for election at every regular municipal election. Board of Trustees members serve four-year staggered terms; the Mayor also serves a four-year term. The Board of Trustees and the Mayor are term limited to 2 terms.

Polling Location for Municipal Elections:

Simla Town Hall - 323 Pueblo Ave, Simla CO 80835, 7 AM - 7PM

A Simla resident may run for a position on the Board of Trustee’s or for Mayor who shall be a qualified elector, defined as

  • Residing within the limits of the corporation for a period of at least twelve (12) months immediately preceding the date of the election;
  • In the case of annexation, any person who has resided within the annexed territory for at least twelve (12) months immediately preceding the date of the election.

Prior to each municipal election the Towns website will be updated with information on what seats are up for election and how to run for office.

Coordinated Elections

From time to time, the Town may participate in coordinated elections held by Elbert County. These elections take place in November of any given year.
