Municipal Court
The Town of Simla’s Municipal Court convenes the 1st Tuesday every other month. Please refer to your summons for the date you are to appear. Please see the Town’s Upcoming Events & Calendar for upcoming court dates.
General Court information
This information pertains only to the Town of Simla Municipal Court. All court proceedings are governed by Town ordinances, court rules and State Statutes. Court employees are not allowed to give legal advice but will be happy to answer any procedural questions.
The Town of Simla Municipal Court has jurisdiction over violations of Town ordinances. This court handles traffic, animal and misdemeanor criminal offenses that have occurred within the Simla Town limits. Criminal, animal, or code summons must appear in person pursuant to the date and time listed on the summons. Traffic cases are heard in person and via Zoom.
If you require a translator, please contact the Court Staff, 719-541-2468, at least 2 weeks prior to your scheduled court date.
If you are not able to attend court on the date you have been ordered to appear please contact Court Staff, 719-541-2468, as soon as possible. If you do not appear on your scheduled court date you will be issued a Notice of Noncompliance and may lead to the suspension of your driver’s license or driving privilege.
Instructions for Attending Court in Person
Arrive at Court at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled court time. Simla Municipal Courts - 323 Pueblo Ave - Simla CO 80835. Court entrance is on the south side of the building.
You will be checked in by Court Staff
You will meet with the Prosecutor
You will then go before the Judge
You will then make payment for the judgement issued by the Judge.
Patience is requested as we conduct court as efficiently as possible.
Instructions for Attending Court Via Zoom
Please understand that your hearing may not begin exactly at the scheduled time. You may be held in waiting room until the court is ready to hear your case. We are admitting several people at the same time, and we are notified when you join the meeting. During this time, you may see a message that says, ” Welcome to Court”, this is normal and you’re in the correct place.
Patience is requested as we conduct court as efficiently as possible. The entire process can take up to 2.5 hours, please plan your time accordingly.
Please read this page carefully, as this is a two-step process for most. Reference your ticket/summons to locate your scheduled court date and time.
Advisement of Rights
Prior to court you will need to read your Advisement of Rights. When you register for Court via Zoom you will affirm you have read your Advisement of Rights.
Register to Appear via Zoom
To appear at Court via Zoom you are required to first register. Click the corresponding link below to the date and time you are summoned to appear on your ticket/summons. After you have registered to the Court Staff will verify your registration and send you an email with a direct link to the virtual hearing. Please be sure to check your junk inbox. If you don’t receive a confirmation email from the Courts please call the Court Staff, 719-541-2468, DO NOT REGISTER MORE THAN ONE TIME.
REGISTRATION:
Appear in Court via Zoom
On the date and time, you are to appear in court click on the Zoom link you received via email from the Court Staff. The following process occurs for appearances via Zoom.
- After joining the meeting your will be checked in by the Court Staff.
- You will then be moved to the waiting room for the Prosecutor.
- After meeting with the Prosecutor, you will then be moved to the Court Room waiting room.
- After appearing before the Judge, you will be given instructions on how to make payment on the judgment issued by the Judge.
Normal courtroom decorum
During the hearing, participants are expected to follow normal courtroom decorum:
- Arrive on time, and make sure your device is charged
- Identify yourself with your real name
- Dress appropriately for court
- Eliminate distractions by finding a quiet place to appear remotely
- Silence all other electronic devises
- Please mute your microphone until it is your turn to speak
- Be courteous and respectful to all other persons appearing in court
- All photography, recording and videography of cases or defendants is prohibited by court order
Payments due
Online payments are accepted. Payments can also be made in person. We accept cash, checks, money orders, Visa, MasterCard and Discover.
